If you don't go bankrupt in between you'll rarely see the finish line or get any points, you have no money to test or improve your cars or drivers, there's not enough material to repair your cars, not enough manpower to sustain good reliability and create parts and people start dropping out of the team from low morale due to bad results in racing, sponsor are unlikely to sign with you, you won't be able to hire good staff because morale is low and your results are subpar. If you start the game with Minardi for example (which was the worst team back then) you can prepare for 2-3 really really really tough years.
